Dr. Ian MacPhee HBSc, MSc, PhD, MD, CCFP
Dr. Ian MacPhee is a Family Physician living and working in the city of Guelph, Ontario since 2005. He is excited to be relocating his practice back to the University area as he started his practice on College Avenue.
He graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biology before moving to London, Ontario where he completed a Masters of Science degree in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Western Ontario (UWO) while studying the role of gap junction proteins in brain tumour proliferation. He followed this up with a PhD from the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University where he expanded his research into the area of neurodevelopment and intracellular signaling. He ended his “career” as a student with a MD degree at Dalhousie University followed by residency in Family Medicine at the University of Western Ontario.
Dr. MacPhee maintains an academic aspect to his practice where he teaches medical students from the University of Toronto, UWO, and international medical schools. He is also a lecturer in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at U of T where he runs a procedures clinic at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre with his colleague Dr. Rezmovitz. His passion for teaching has led to the creation of ProceducateTM, an iOS and Android-based portable teaching app. Dr. MacPhee has presented his research into medical education at both the national and international levels.
Dr. MacPhee has been an Investigating Coroner for Guelph-Wellington since 2008 and has investigated over 600 deaths in that time. He remains an advocate for proper death investigation in the region.
He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Chancellors Way Medical Arts Centre, a project developed with his associate Dr. Luke Boudreau, to create a true team approach to healthcare for the residents of Guelph and surrounding areas. Working with likeminded individuals like Dr. Roger Stronell has been reassuring to Dr. MacPhee that there are excellent healthcare practitioners who put service to their patients at the top of their business model.
Having grown up in Prince Edward Island, family is very important to Dr. MacPhee. When he is not working, he enjoys spending as much time as possible with his family enjoying things like fishing or playing in the many wonderful parks Guelph has to offer.
